National Flannel day? What’s that? Stick with me to find out.
By this time every year, fashion enthusiasts and individuals worldwide acknowledge this unique piece of fabric known as ‘flannel’. It is also a day where you get to learn a bit about what flannels are, so let’s dig in.
What is flannel in the first place?
The word ‘flannel’ is a name given to a textile fabric just like you have cotton, wool, polyester, silk, etc. A few characteristics of flannels include:
- Feel: one major characteristic is the soft fuzzy feel it gives. Fuzzy? Yes. This fuzziness I talk about comes from the production process of “napping” the fabric, which essentially raises the fibers and creates air pockets. These air pockets in turn trap heat, making flannel warm and perfect for colder weather.
- Look: it has a classic plaid pattern like in the image above or solid colors like in the image below.
- Material: originally made of wool, nowadays it is made from cotton blended with synthetic fibers like polyester which allows for wrinkle resistance and makes it affordable for you and I.
Flannels have become a personal favorite in recent times and are a cool gift for a good friend or loved one. You can even take it a step further to customize their name especially on the unpattern ones. Trust me they’ll love it.
