Hi Dale. Like your essays but I have serious disagreements with this one. This one does not in fact argue for optimism about the future. Or if it does, the optimism that the radical Left might take over in the next election cycle. It probably won’t. You argue for a mythological system where everyone will be happy, a utopia that is undefined other than all people will feel self-actualized. People will have grievances in any system and the US has a system where the “other side” is always heard through the political parties and democratic process.

If the radical Left is the solution, you fail to acknowledge its mistakes in the last election cycle, not to mention elsewhere in the world. I also wish you wouldnt use the Far Right’s hate speech such as their referring to others as “liberal elites”. Calling people this effectively means saying “I know you are smarter/more successful than me and I hate you for it”. Radicalism wont work in liberal democracies. You don’t vote for a revolution. You either have a revolution or you don’t.

I would posit you are drifting towards a Far Right or radical Left worldview of seeing winners and losers. What does it mean to win the popular vote but not win the public office? What does it mean to win the public office but not win any major legislative victories? Perhaps you will consider these questions in your next essay.
