After going through this semester, I’m not sure what career path I want to take anymore regarding engineering/engineering related fields. So one skill that is all around useful to have is knowing how to properly engage in stock removal. Basically, stock removal is taking a material (such as a piece of metal) and removing material from it to form a desired structure. I’m currently experimenting with some really basic stock removal techniques. I first model what I want to create on Solidworks and then buy a piece of metal to then “shave” down until I get my object. Right now, I’m creating a sword using this technique. I’ve created my intended design on Solidworks and have gotten the basic outline of the sword cut out. All that’s left is to sharpen and polish it. Through this, I’ve had to learn how to use a powersaw and grinder. For future projects, I will have to learn how to use more and more tools.
