Can two beggars make each other rich ?

Five years ago, around the same time, I had first landed in the United States. Did not know, if flying across the seven seas would fill in the void that was created with the constant thought of “what next”.

I still remember the night before my flight that morning. A few of my closest people were still at home, of course the family and a few friends. Although, to everyone, it might have seemed a confident move, I can’t possibly describe the storm of mixed feelings that were inside of me. The thought of leaving everything behind, family, friends( who were family ), home , mom’s hand cooked food, the comforts of an everyday life, the comfort of “ When you get back from work, there are people waiting for you” had shaken me up a little bit.

The one picture I have from that early morning

Just, when I was about to board the plane, with a weird combination of excitement and resentment, I realized why I was afraid to leave everything behind. All of them , just by their mere presence had contributed so much to my life. Like overflowing cups of wisdom, light and love they had just downpoured all the good things, that I cherish now, upon me.

All of this came back to my memory, when I was listening to a discourse on the “Bhakti Sutras (aphorisms of love)by Rishi Narada”.

We were talking about how in any relationship, be it with friends, family, spouse etc, the beauty is created in sharing. My friendships and my family ties have never been related to a state of demand, that I want that or I want this. It has always come up from a state of contribution towards each other. And, when can that happen? When the person is already rich from within, when they don’t come from a space of lack. Also, most of my friends used to meditate every day. This state of abundance can come only from that.

For contributing to someone’s life you have to be rich from inside. Two beggars can never make each other rich.

Sharing a few of my memories from the past which I was just reminiscing about.
