Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani

The most anticipated film of the year, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, was finally released a week ago. The Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt starrer is not only performing well at the box office but bagged a positive review from the critics as well as the audience. The film, in a couple of sequences, refreshed the memories of Johar’s earlier directorial Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. But did you know that the Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani climax has a connection with an emotional scene of K3G?

Warning: Major Spoiler Alert! (For those who haven’t watched “Rocky Aur Rani” yet, proceed with caution as this article contains spoilers.)

Before the climax of K3G, Anjali (Kajol) goes to Rahul (Shah Rukh Khan) and tries to convince him to apologize to his parents and return to India after they confront Yash (Amitabh Bachchan) and Nandini (Jaya Bachchan) in the mall. However, in his response, Rahul says, “Woh bade hai, bujurg hai… lekin dil todne ka haq unko bhi nahi hai (I agree they are elders but even they don’t have the right to break a heart).”

This line is echoed in the climax of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. In the film, Rani (Alia Bhatt) argues with Rocky’s (Ranveer Singh) father Tijori (Aamir Bashir) after he insults her family. Amid their heated argument, Rani unintentionally pushes Tijori. This leads to Rocky getting upset with Rani. While trying to explain his point of view, Rocky tells Rani that his father is “elder,” and in response, Rani tells him, “Woh bade bujurg hai lekin bezzati karne ka haq unko bhi nahi hai (Even elders don’t have the right to disrespect others).”

For me, the similarity between these two lines establishes a connection between the two films. In both cases, the younger generation is standing up to their elders for their wrongdoings. They are refusing to accept that just because someone is older, they have the right to treat them poorly.

This is a powerful message that is especially relevant in today’s world. We live in a society where ageism is still a very real problem. People are often treated differently based on their age, even if they are perfectly capable of taking care of themselves.

The climax of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani is a powerful scene that left a lasting impression on me.

Speaking of my personal opinion, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani is a typical Karan Johar film. But what makes it special is the treatment of various aspects of society, which have been addressed quite subtly. In the kind of environment and society I have been brought up, it took a lot of time for me to understand the concept of respect. Nope, what we have been taught, or at least to me, it was more of a fear. I have so much to speak about it, but let’s save the best for later.

Please share your thoughts in the comments section or reach out to me on Instagram, Facebook or Whatsapp! I would love to know your thoughts on this film, especially its climax!
