Above As So Below

by Jason John Bartholomew

when we spoke with one tongue, who caused us to babble?
in this perfect world he made, who blames us for its troubles?
after we tasted the fruit of light, who threw us back out into the night?
who looks down on the nature of man, no matter where we stand
and can only ever see wickedness?
who talks a good game but never can seem to keep any of his promises?

we’re all taught to be wary the one tempting us into darkness
but what about the other one on the other side who comes up behind and pushes?

it’s evil
the flip side of it, also the same coin
it’s evil
you’re gonna need to flip a switch if you wanna try something different.

doesn’t matter whether you enter from the South or the North;
doesn’t matter if you’re sitting on the front or back porch
(the whole house is haunted)
we gotta get off this back and forth
but we keep hanging on for dear life;
left, right and wrong
swinging between death and destruction
riding our wrecking ball pendulum.
to and fro and back again

that ain’t getting us to Kingdom Come.

see, cuz god is the devil
he’s playing us both sides toward the middle
and that shit’s evil.

all paths lead up the mountain
all paths lead down into the pit
even the disbelievers inextricably tied up in this.
maybe you’ll shrug and say “it is what it is.”
“I Am that I Am,” I’ll reply with a hiss
what all that is, to be clear, is evil

as above
so below…
so, so evil.

feeks like we ran off and joined a Circus Shit Show
We’ve been clawing our way out of the muck forever
look around you
we’ve got nothing to show
and just as far still left to go

its evil

the more things change
its just more of the same
more us vs. them
evil vs. evil vs. evil

the mirror forever shattering.
