I have been a faithful follower of yours for a while now, an the first thing I do every morning when I get to my computer is to check out whether you wrote an essay that day and then read it. By and large, I have been in total agreement whith your economico-politico-social Analysi(You do sometimes lose me with the lovy feely nirvana stuff…”

However, on this particular essay, I really feel you are, as you suggest yourself towards the end of the piece, “overintellectuelising” the issue at hand. I too have been deploring for months now the fact that the Democratic Party is comatose, has no charismatic leaders, no platform, no will, no guts, no message.

My conclusion is much simpler than yours, and it fits in on word: CORRUPTION.

A hard word I know, but the fact of the matter is that our Democratic Officials, elected or otherwise, have been BOUGHT just like their Republican colleagues by the same special interest groups(Military Industrial Complex, Big Pharma, Hospitals, Doctors, NRA, etc…, etc…).

It does not matter a bit what the people want. I have no illusions, it will take nothing short of a revolution to shake things up, and may be, just maybe, make things right. I don’t have much hope of seing that in my lifetime…

The Democratic Party is just a name hanging upon an empy shell, it is not there anymore. Both Parties have slowly moved right in the last 40 years. The Republican Party has moved to the alt-right, and seems comfortable flirting with Fascim. The Democratic Party long ago with Bill Clinton moved to the Center and cosied up to big business. We had a chance back then, but the thouroughly researched, and expertly crafted Universal Healthcare Proposal presented at the time by a still borderline Socialist Hillary was laughed off the hill.

When Obama took power, instead of picking it up and rushing it through, he willy dillied, wavered, dragged his feet, and bullshited us into believing Obamacare was the best that could be done. That was a pitiful effort, and still is. Yes, it’s better than nothing, and did some good, but it still was a shitty patch.

Look at California. They had voted on a Single Payer Universal Health Care Plan, it was on the way to become law, and then California Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon shelved it. The Democrat in charge killed it! Why? Because he is owned by the “Medico-Pharmaceutical Complex like everybody else. I took it hard. Hell, if California can’t do it, what are the chances of any other state doing it? And I live in Alabama, for chrissake!

So, guilt and self punishment? May be. But I think you give them way too much credit. They are not sophisticated enough to have these feelings. Honest and good people feel guilt. Politicians are pretty much all the same, they care about and understand only one thing: MONEY.

Good luck!
