How to Storyboard an App or Website

Storyboarding can really help you nail down a prototype for your new app without writing a bunch of throwaway code.

The idea of storyboarding comes from the entertainment industry:

If you’re building a web application or website, it’ll look more like this:

The goal of a storyboard is to show each screen in the app or website. No need for details. Just show the most important actions on each screen.

You’ll also need to show which screen each button or link goes to. Number each image, and write a note next to each button or link with the number of the screen it links to.

When you’re done, you can use your storyboard as a reference for the next step in the UX design process: Paper Prototyping.
