Twitter and Public Personas

As a person who had been on twitter for years… I have always used it as a source for news. Whenever I get a text from somebody at home about something that is going on in my city or surrounding it, the first thing that I do is go to twitter and search for #waltham. Usually within a few minutes, and a few searches, I will be able to provide some information to whoever texted me.

I have only had a personal twitter account since I joined twitter back in 2010.

I follow around 1,900 accounts and have around 600 followers. I follow alot of athletes, companies, and over the last couple of years- news outlets. I love being able to do a quick twitter search to find out what exactly is going on in the world.

One of the favorite people that I follow on twitter is Dan Roche. He is a sports reporter for WBZ out of Boston and has been around for a long time.

He is my go-to-guy when it comes to anything Boston sports related. He tweets on a daily basis and even multiple times a day as shown by his almost 25k tweet amount. He is very interactive on twitter, and also allows followers to interact by posting polls and asking questions.

When “Rochie” as he goes by tweets, his followers always know they can trust him because he is always up close and personal with the teams and athletes that he is covering. If it is not him directly covering the event he still usually has a few tweets regarding a certain game or event going on. I really am not sure what I would do differently if I were Dan. To me as a Boston sports fan, he provides me with everything that I need to know.

When it came time to find a reporter I do not like, it was honestly very tough. If I find someone that usually isn’t worth a follow or like, I simply will not like or follow them. So searching through my twitter and facebook I had a very tough time. Now I don’t follow this person, but one person I am not a very big fan of on twitter is Boston Globe reporter Kevin Paul Dupont. He is a sports reporter who thinks he knows everything about every sport. I’m pretty sure he has even admitted to never playing a sport besides as a child. He talks down to almost every person who tweets to him and never really has his own scoops for stories. He is always the guy who quotes other people as sources and gets into beefs with other reporters. Overall I generally do not like the guy.

Now I did a google search of myself and honestly nothing interesting came up…. even when I type in my name as J.J. it still comes up empty. The only time I was able to to get any results is when I included my hometown and the results that come up are my stats from when I was on the hockey team at Lyndon.
