Establishment reactions to the Panama papers revelations are interesting – at least in the UK. Here, the fact that one chooses to encrypt one’s email using PGP can be a ‘selector’ which can lead to the spooks taking a deeper dive into one’s communications. The logic, of course, is the trope that “if you have nothing to hide then you have nothing to fear”.
But if you choose to hide your financial affairs behind a wall of tax-haven secrecy, why that’s probably perfectly reasonable. After all, everyone has a reasonable expectation of privacy in their financial dealings – unless there’s a reasonable suspicion of malign intent.
