If the Facebook Data Center in Prinville, Oregon were laid on its side, it would be taller than the Empire State Building. Inside this data center, there are thousands of diverse servers and storage systems working in tandem to store our data. Our photos, videos, and other important information reside within these servers. They build the infrastructure to be so redundant that can be basically pull any server and it’s not going to effect any end user it .

How do they maintained it? Facebook capitalizes on Prineville’s cool, dry weather by using a sophisticated evaporative cooling system, reducing reliance on conventional cooling techniques. This strategy aligns with Facebook’s focus on energy efficiency, as the Prineville center incorporates specially designed hardware for better energy savings. Alongside this, the data center is progressively moving towards the use of renewable energy sources. Ensuring uninterrupted operations is crucial, so the facility has backup solutions, including sizeable batteries and emergency diesel generators for potential power interruptions. The center is also fortified with strong security features, such as boundary fences, biometric entry systems, surveillance equipment, and 24/7 security staff. Technically, in-house technicians consistently carry out maintenance to guarantee the servers run efficiently, replacing parts as needed.
