The vaping industry has had a rough year. A deadly and severe lung disease started occurring back in April of 2019. Later given the name EVALI, little was known about it other than the fact that almost all the cases were linked to people vaping.

With more than 40 million people vaping at the time, a lot of people had good reason to be concerned.

A lot of fearful news was being reported in the US media at the time. And local governments started quickly reacting to the public’s fears.

Yet there was a caveat. The UK at the time had reported 0 cases, even though it had a heavy population of vapers (3.6 million people). Compare that to a total of almost 2,800 cases in the US, even with many more users.

So why the difference?

What are the symptoms of EVALI?

According to the CDC, the symptoms of EVALI syndrome are pretty devastating:

  • Respiratory symptoms — coughing, shortness of breath, and/or chest pain
  • Gastrointestinal symptoms — nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, and/or diarrhea
  • Fever, chills, and/or weight loss
