Master of None Is a Masterpiece (just my thoughts on an awesome show)

Master of None is one of the best new shows I’ve seen this year, largely for the reasons you mention, but also by virtue of how different it is from many other sitcoms. It doesn’t fall into the all-too-common trap of trying to achieve instant laugh-out-loud gratification. The jokes are subtle, offbeat, and above all: relatable. Take, for instance, the trivial conversations about 8 Mile, or how it should be as cold inside stores as it is outside of them. This idle chatter is exactly the kind of crap that my friends and I spend hours on end talking about. There’s something extremely comforting about watching a show which favours that sort of comedy over the predictable, formulaic, laugh-track addled pseudo-humour of certain other sitcoms.
