Learning About Ayurveda

As an ancient practice of sustaining a healthy body and mind, Ayurveda remains relevant and pertinent today, as a guide to healthy living. Some of the activities I participate in every day are related to Ayurveda. Some, like meditation (I don’t always do this every day, but I try) are not very common. Others like eating and sleeping are things I do every day, along with the rest of humanity. Staying in tune with nature can be harder, as I live in an urban area, though the Whittier campus is thankfully green. I grew up going on camping trips with my family, so appreciating nature has always been important to me.

The only truly good deed of any substantive nature I have performed in the last few weeks was participating in the Tax March in Los Angeles on the 15th. This is a subjective good deed, as protesting Donald Trump is viewed as wrong by many people. However, to me, it felt like I was taking action, making a difference, if only in a small way. As it relates to my mind, body and spirit, well I did exercise, in the mildest sense of the word. My mind was focused on the task and effect I wanted to have on the spectators and on the president. I, we, wanted to let him know that he is not above the same laws that govern us, that he works for us, the people. My spirit was nourished and bolstered by the turnout, by the outpouring of peaceful resistance.
