Portraying Domestic Violence

Domestic violence is a problem that persists in society and is likely never to go away. However, the willingness of people to intervene and help or be able to handle such situations is something we can improve upon. I think a basic step to be made in this direction is disarming the stereotypes that surround domestic abuse. One way to do that is to accurately portray domestic abuse in film, books, songs, and tv shows. Domestic abuse is a favorite plot point of writers in all of these, but it is important that when used in a story, that stereotypes are not furthered, but instead shown to false, or misleading.
