My response to the NHS PrEP consultation
Owen Blacker

My problem with the consultation is that people who inject drugs have been immediately discounted as eligible candidates.

The chemsex scene is one of the worst catalysts for the spread and higher incidence of HIV in the U.K.

There doesn’t appear to be any contraindications between PrEP and crystal meth/mephedrone injecting and many of the addicts are ‘functioning’, i.e. they would be able to stick to the regime.

In my response I asked the government to consider that vulnerable group of gay men who are using crystal meth and other drugs and contract HIV via risky sex they engage in whilst high. I fluffed it out a bit more than that, though.
