While that may be the case, the following can’t be ignored:
- Being able to read English articles does not mean you can write in English well enough to be confident writing in the workplace
- 20% of Canada and US population speak a language other than English (or French in Canada’s case) at home — so about 68 million people in North America
- A quick scroll of who’s clapping and following on my articles shows a majority of non-Western names
- Looking around the office this morning, about 25% of my coworkers do not speak English as their first language
At a personal level, if there were even a handful of people in my immediate circles that I thought might be able to benefit from this article, even in just a small way, I would’ve still written it. I understand that that’s not a sentiment shared by many, and that’s alright with me!
