What did you do this past week?

This past week I did the readings for the course and looked at the project specifications so I could start thinking about what is required for the project. For other classes, because it is still early in the semester, I only have completed readings and small assignments/quizzes. I also took some time to apply for a lot of full time jobs.

What’s in your way?

As classes start to pick up, I am starting to get busier, especially with recruiting. I am trying to make sure I have stay on top of deadlines and stay organized, but still, I feel that recruiting is making everything a lot more stressful and busy. Also, I am finally starting to receive invites for interviews, so I also need to balance school with interview prep.

What will you do next week?

I will start work on the project and continue to stay on track with the readings. I also will brush up on Github commands because I haven’t used it in a while. For other classes, I will need to brush up on how to do CTFs and also go to the Blanton Museum for my Philosophy of Arts course.

What’s your experience of the class?

So far, lecture has been a lot more engaging than I expected. I like Downing’s lecture style because it is really easy to follow and also keeps me focused in fear of being called on. Aside from lecture, I was also disappointed in myself because I had accidentally forgotten about the first blog post until after it was due, so I have been making sure that I stay on top of being organized for this course, which I believe will be crucial for my success.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

My tip is from indeed.com. I have used this website in the past to search for internship and job opportunities, but recently I discovered a feature I thought was helpful, which is their tool that allows users to view salaries of software engineers in a specific area. Because I am applying for jobs, some applications have asked for what I would expect as a starting salary. This tool is a great way to ensure that you never underestimate yourself in terms of what salary you should receive.
