Because companies seek to appear busy in order to raise credit lines and attract investors while they can in hopes to survive whether a phase, reorg or to be acquired or merged or change direction. On the other hand tho the deafening is caused by Soundcloud corporate for not speaking to their employees about what is REALLY going on.

Keeping employees in the dark doesn’t improve morale. It destroys and eats away at it. It’s to appear to be strategic not saying much till all the pieces are in the right place, but it’s a risk, creates questions, spreads rumors and reduces trust.

In the long run for those laid off tho it creates depression in those who have been forced out and among those left.
