Robocars will work where they work…..at least initially. Four wheelers aren’t likely to robowheeler around, for example.
Why don’t I do buses? Because buses don’t go wherever I want to go at whatever time I wish to go. Buses didn’t replace my car.
All those sensors and tech those robocars need are fine if they work. They’ll need updates, repair, ongoing service, and replacement. That goes for the systems in place to manage and use them.
It’s pretty hard to replace what humans will still need to do.
Robocars will be fine in fixed locations like a business part or specific routes in a city or on highways.
BART in San Francisco, ferries in the Seattle region, subways in many cities, for example,….they all are great to use if you love standing in line to get to them, standing in crowds, can get to a station or dock, that they aren’t on strike, don’t have service problems, don’t have construction going on, etc. We have examples of systems that were supposed to do away with old fashion methods of travel…..that didn’t exactly take over.
