Two of my many favorite TV shows are Little House on the Prairie and Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman. Both are period dramas set in the late 1800s, but they were filmed at totally different times. The former ran from 1974 to 1983, while the latter ran from 1993 to 1999. Although, both also had reunion movies quite a while after the shows stopped. The two shows had a lot of similarities, many of which I’m about to talk about below. Due to their long titles, I’ll refer to them as Little House or LH and Dr. Quinn or DQ for the rest of the article. There will be a lot of spoilers below, so be aware. That said, here are 25 shared plot points between the two.

1. A Woman Dies and Leaves Exactly Three Kids in the Care of a Main Character

In Dr. Quinn, this happens extremely early on. Dr. Michaela Quinn, or Dr. Mike as she’s called throughout the series (Jane Seymour) is the main character. She arrives in Colorado Springs, Colorado from Boston. She soon finds most townspeople are hostile to lady doctors, but Charlotte Cooper (Diane Ladd) is an exception. The “Widow Cooper” was actually abandoned by her husband a while before Michaela came to town. When she gets bitten by a rattlesnake and nobody knows where her husband is, she leaves her three kids to Dr. Mike on her deathbed.
