pontificate verb pɒnˈtɪfɪkeɪt/ — to give your opinions about something in a way that shows that you think you are right
Best Decision — a simple app, that enables you to weigh your options more thoughtfully. The process is the following
- Add options
- Add mesurable traits
- Prioritise each trait
- Assign trait values to each option
Okay. Now let's think about it. The price itself should be this kind of measure, right? Should we exclude it from the list of traits? But why would we even need the tool if we could just go and pick the most expensive iPad. Because we might care more for other things.
The screen is the most expensive part of the device and increases proportionally (kind of) with size. But what if you care more about mobility than screen size? And it is very important here to understand these weights carefully because given slightly different inputs this decision maker may give you drastically different outputs. How do you calibrate? First try to make those traits as independent as possible. Say screen size and mobility are very dependent traits. It might be a wise choice to use only one of them. Or else you must be very careful if you want to use them both.
Now imagine that you have unlimited budget — put zero to price trait and see what happens. Try the same thing with the others. Does the result match your intuition? Why do you care for this particular trait? For how long do you think you will be using this device? Will future you using this device care about the trait you care so much now? Maybe you are planning to buy a car and mobility will not be such an issue any more and so on.
I've turned one of my monitors 270˚ and turned on "Distraction free mode" (ˆ⌘O). Why did I try it before?!
Oh yeah, and also this: ligatures. Intellij IDEA supports popular programming fonts in which your lambdas look so much cooler.
To enable ligatures, go to the Settings → Editor → Colors & Fonts → Font, choose a font that supports ligatures, e.g. FiraCode, Hasklig, Monoid or PragmataPro (the font has to be installed) and select the Enable font ligatures option.
Exponent.fm — a podcast about tech and society hosted by Ben Thompson and James Allworth.
These guys are now everyday guests in my headphones. It is not just another tech/business podcast. The way they discuss things, the manner they argue and come to conclusions — it's a way of having smart friends to learn from without actually needing to communicate with people :). And then suddenly you are better at communicating with people. And analyzing stuff.

Mitch Turck — I couldn't invent better introduction for this guy:
I try to create mutually beneficial solutions for society. Sometimes it means blowing my savings to build a universal employability score. Sometimes it means blowing my savings again to build an app to help local businesses take down corporate chains. Most recently, it means pontificating about howautonomous cars will revolutionize our lives, and developing a way to educate people about sexual assault where they need to hear it most. Or, doing none of the above because I’m three days into an ice cream binge. We all have our vices.
