The number one cause of the “pay gap” is the fields men and women choose, both college educated and non. While women are entering STEM fields in thankfully increasing numbers, they are still way underrepresented because they either can not, or CHOOSE not to successfully take the very hard math & science courses needed. Women and minorities are breathlessly reported as “underrepresented” for instance, in Silicon valley. Discrimination? NO. They failed to take the path necessary to know or create anything of value in that world. Didn’t want to be a nerd? Ok, but don’t complain about it.

In the trades, men tend to take the more dirty, dangerous, or even disgusting jobs, and those that require long periods away from home. Many jobs also require sheer physical strength (oilfield roughnecks for instance). What keeps women from taking up the plumbing trade? CHOICE.

The MARKET sets pay for skill sets. If it is a job that too many people flock to or that require minor skills: Clerk, Barrista, Cashier…it will be low paid. If it is a skill that is either hard to attain, or difficult to do, it will pay better. Engineer, IT Mgr, Doctor, Plumber, Oil Rig Roughneck.

Lastly, women tend more than men to choose to place their career behind having children or their relationship. However it is put, this reduces your value to the company, your commitment to the company, the hours you work and the experience you gather. That will result in lower rate of advancement (just as it would for a man who chooses the same path).

Get over it. Drop the Womyns Studies courses and join the boys in the Calculus classes.
