As an employer for 20+ years, this is an issue I’ve thought about quite a bit (with a twist). My attitude is that whatever you do outside of office hours is your business, unless it affects your work negatively during office hours. For example:

  • You can dress up like a squirrel and play “hide the nuts” all weekend long; if you’re doing your job Monday morning, then it’s none of my business.
  • If you are too tired to pay attention during Monday morning status meetings because you were out all night Sunday burning crosses with your buddies; it is my business.

The twist is that I live in Austria, where labor and privacy laws are very strict, but where neo-Nazi activities are strictly “verboten.”
