Choosing to be happy

Friday I was walking my dog in the morning when I saw this lady that lives on my street who must be in her 90’s. I said hello and I exlaimed in an excited voice “it’s going to be a good day today!” She looked at me and said “every day I wake up is a good day.” I smiled and nodded that she was right.

I walked a little further and I saw another neighbor in his 40’s getting ready to go to work. I exlaimed the same thing “it’s going to be a good day today!” He replied “so far, so good.” I said “It will be, I can feel it” which he replied “I haven’t been to the office yet.”

There’s a big difference in mindset here. The older lady is saying I’m going to love this day no matter what goes wrong. The man is saying my happiness is dependent on what might or might not happen.

We have will power over our thought. Our will is a gift. Why Not choose to live like that older lady? To wake up and decide to be happy. Of course it’s incredibly hard but don’t you think it’s worth a try?
