This is one of the most beautiful sounding songs I have ever heard. Paolo’s vocals in this are insane and the whole song is when you consider how young he was when he wrote it. It was his debut single which he released in 2006. One of my favourite versions of this is him singing it under a tree, a week before it was released, and his voice is so beautiful in it. Many people will also know this from episode one of Gavin and Stacey.

It’s such a calming track to begin with, with carefully strummed chords accompanied with another guitar playing a great rhythm piece. Even when the drums are added, it continues to have a soft sound. It’s also worth noting how soothing the vocals are in this opening verse. Whenever a song begins to layer up on instruments, you’re anticipating a great hook or the song to get louder and more passionate. And this very thing happens in the chorus.

“Grant my last request and let me hold you” is a great first line in the chorus section. It’s evident that the writer and his girlfriend are breaking up, and the writer wants one more act of love before they can let go of each other. He knows this relationship won’t mend but he wants her for one last time.

It’s funny because you can be easily fooled by how soft and gentle the instrumental for this track is when you take into consideration the two characters are breaking up. It’s still a love song in a bittersweet sense, because of the writer knowing it won’t work, but he still loves her enough to have one, ‘last request’, and there isn’t any hatred.

My favourite line from this song is:

“Slow down, lie down, remember it’s just you and me”.
