This is a similar concept, apart from the registry does not run on top of Kubernetes. Some people prefer to keep the registry separate from the k8s cluster, or didn’t like that setup where originally, the Kubernetes add-on did not support SSL or authentication. So this is just another way of achieving a similar goal.
