Cannabis Symbolism

Every month or two the mainstream media chooses to publish stories on cannabis; these flood my facebook feed. They range from the the recent “skunk reefer madness” scare to the more moderate and pro drug reform articles from the likes of the Huffington Post and the Independent. However, one thing that they all have in common is their choice of symbol. A fat spliff with plumes of swirling smoke. Now, I love Cheech and Chong as much as the next cannabis consumer (read: stoner) but smoking spliffs is just one way to consume cannabis. Combustion is never going to be a healthy option, and it will never be perceived to be a good activity to sanction… that’s a no brainer. But we all know that cannabis can be consumed safely and effectively as part of a healthy lifestyle.

I love making tinctures and I have many friends who enjoy a pipette or two in a glass of water before bed. At Christmas I made some cannabis infused coconut oil (cannabutter) which I used in the family fruit cake. I also used it to make moist and tasty carrot cake. These went down a treat and contributed to a calm and affable atmosphere.

The popularity of vaporising has risen dramatically in the last few years. I know of at least three ladies who no longer smoke and instead enjoy this healthy non-toxic alternative.

Cannabis also has huge benefits in its raw state as a vegatable. See below…

So calling all journalists and cannabis article writers. If you agree that the current laws are in desperate need of radical reform, then do you part and use your imagination. Change the symbol and change the story.
