One thing I wanted to comment on — you mentioned the idea that different companies will be innovating but they’ll keep their information silo’d to themselves.

It’s natural that some amount of that will happen cuz of competition and what not but one thing that might be of interest to you is the idea of Fat vs Thin protocols

Basically if the protocols (what you refer to as the common platform) contain enough value then that leaves the application layer to be thin enough to be profitable without letting companies capture too much value to themselves.
