Very thoughtful, and a good reminder to us all — especially when internet mud-slinging is so much easier — that a lot of the people voting for Trump are not anything like the man himself. They are, like a lot of us, just regular people trying to get by and increasingly frustrated by an unfair system.
Obviously there are some Trump supporters who are voting for Trump because “they just hate ______” (black people, women, minorities, progressives, gay people, or some other representation of “other-hood”). We’ve seen their violence at rallies and protests; it scares us, and rightfully so. But the focus has been on that sect for long enough, and to argue with that group, instead of reaching out to reasonable people with whom we disagree, would do nothing but give them a platform from which to continue their hate.
Understanding is the only way we come back from this.
