Self acceptance for readers

How to accept yourself when you think too much

When you spend too much time inside your head, it can make it hard to accept yourself. You can become overly critical and disconnected from the reality of your experience. Here are a few reasons not to become a prisoner of you perceptions.

Art is self expression

If you suck at dancing, can’t play an instrument if your life depended on it and you still draw using stick figures — don’t despair.

What is valuable about art is that is an expression of someone’s consciousness. As long as you are living, you have the ability to make art.

Sometimes the expression of your consciousness is socially or economically valuable, sometimes it is not. This does not affect the artistic value of your work.

Only the present is real

Don’t feel bad about your past. It doesn’t exist anymore. History is just fading memories, and the future is just an idea. The present is all we ever have — don’t let that experience be diminished by anything else.

Truth is only perception

You are not wrong, bad or ugly. The reality of your experience is so much more complex than the labels inside your head. You are what you choose to be — everything is perception.

All rules can be broken, anything can be reframed.

People are selfish

Ultimately, people don’t care who you are or what you did. All they care about is how it affects them (yes, including you). Let them feel good about themselves, and everything else happens for free.
