The missing ingredient in this analysis is the fundamental rejection by many French of the “liberal”, free-market economy that Macron embodies. Most French beleive in a society that distributes weath to ensure some level of equality. The French already view this election as a no-win situation where they have to choose between two unsavory alternatives (I recently saw a posted proclaiming that “Our dreams are bigger than your ballot box”). So the parlamentarians will pretty much have a mandate to obstruct Macron’s policies at every turn. Whoever wins, it will be a tough five years.
