This one is truly awful and, unfortunately, so unbearably common in so many areas, across tech companies in particular, that it borders on pathological; alleged employee advocates (who are usually also management) discourage any kind of organization that might enhance important benefits rather than those that are easy to justify (reimbursements for meals and things that usually only exist to keep you at work longer and showing up earlier).
