If Harry Jackson, Darlette Stowers and Tony Perkins tacitly agree that their support was never based on “shared values”, then what are their values actually worth? The raison d’etre of the religious right was to use political power to combat moral degeneracy; what is left of their integrity if they are merely willing to vote for the moral degenerate of best fit?

What would Jesus do? Stay out of the race, leave unto Ceasar that which is Ceasar’s, and concentrate his entire efforts on grassroots initiatives to spread the gospel. If you succumb to consequentialism in pursuit of political power, then you aren’t really a Christian at all.

Only there is no Jesus, of course, as these people well know.
