Participation in Ars Electronica 2020
In 2020 I participated in Ars Electronica 2020, Festival of Art, Technology, and Society, in the following events:
Ars Electronica Festival 2020 — In Kepler’s Gardens, Festival of Art, Technology, and Society, MindSpaces — Garden Thessaloniki
João Martinho Moura / interview, work presentation
Linz, Austria / worldwide
You can watch a video documentary about my artistic background and works in progress at MindSpaces, a STARTS European Commission initiative aiming to create new urban and architectural approaches integrating immersive ‘neuroenvironments’ in virtual reality:
This video presents work in progress, bringing embodied and out-of-body sensations among urban spaces. In this experience, I’m teleported to L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, a municipality in Spain, located in the immediate southwest of Barcelona, in Catalonia’s autonomous community. In collaboration with the MindSpaces consortium, the artistic and research work will involve neurosciences, embodiment, virtual spatial technologies, and out-of-body sensations in the urban space.
The video contains audio samples from lex1975 recorded at L’Hospitalet metro station. Tecla Sala 3d model by Christos Stentoumis, up2metric. Music by João Martinho Moura. Video by MindSpaces
The artistic and research work, in collaboration with the MindSpaces consortium, will involve neurosciences, embodiment, spatial virtual technologies, and virtual reality. I’ll collaborate with Mindspaces consortium in the field of embodiment, neurosciences, and telepresence. I’m honored to collaborate with the Brain and Emotion Laboratory at Maastricht University, lead by Professor Beatrice de Gelder, to develop my ideas related to emotion and telepresence, and out of body sensations in the urban space.
The work is ongoing until mid-2021. More about this work in the next months.
I also participated in the event: Hybrid Experiences: A Journey with MIT Tangible Media Group, MindSpaces and MEET Digital Culture Center, Ars Electronica Festival 2020
This tour took us to Garden Cambridge, Milan and Thessaloniki, as Tangible Media Group, MEET Digital Culture Center and European project MindSpaces give us an insight into their projects working with VR, multisensing technologies and telepresence. Artists, researchers and scientists took a deep dive into their practice and unique perspectives of creating hybrid experiences between physical and digital space.
