If COVID-19 spreads asymptomatically, then mass adoption and adherence to face mask protocols might prove to be our most critical, but underutilized intervention.

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to exact a staggering toll at home and abroad. At present, there are half a million confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the United States. Worldwide this number is swiftly approaching two-million. The pandemic’s toll on human life hit another milestone this weekend, eclipsing 100,000 deaths worldwide and nearing 20,000 here in the U.S. — which now puts us at the top for most deaths worldwide. While the death toll and number of infections resulting from COVID-19 are striking and continue to multiply, there is hope — and more importantly evidence — that some of our countermeasures — like that of mass population quarantine — are beginning to dampen the spread of SARS-CoV-2. …
