Perhaps. That’s usually a good approach. However, it’s also a good idea to check and see if what you want to do is even possible before investing a lot of time and effort into it.

In this case, the Australian-style gun confiscation that people are holding up as a model for “civilized” countries (I’ll get to that unexamined assumption in a moment) is simply never going to happen in the US.

As for “civilized” countries being those that don’t allow their citizens to keep and bear arms, I can do no better than cite Jeffrey Snyder’s essay A Nation of Cowards.

Now, how about real answers to our nation’s violence problems, instead of blaming the tool for the hand that holds it?
