Analytics: “The science and use of analysis” — Ahmed Sagarwala

Every successful company uses analytics to find things such as: what are the most searched products? When are the times people access the website? What are the ages of our viewers and where do they live?

All of this information is needed and used with a LEAN methodology to find out more about the customer and what exactly the customer wants. After using this marketing research, products are developed and constantly changed to be the solution to the customer’s problem.

Google compiled the data they receive from everyone viewing their merchandise website and made it available to the public via “Google analytics”.

What did Google learn?

Between 8pm and 8:30 pm on this day (the last day of November, a Wednesday evening) there were:

  • 15 active users on the site
  • 87% of them were using their desktop to access the website
  • 13% of them were on a mobile version
  • #1 visited link (after the home page) was the webpage displaying tote bags in natural or navy colors
  • #2 was the Nest indoor security camera
  • #3 was the audio electronics page
  • Youtube had the top social media traffic
  • Most traffic originated from the west coast of the USA, but there was traffic from every continent except for Europe.

From all this, it’s possible for Google to assume that:

  • Most users were older, due to the lack of mobile use
  • Most of the users were women, considering the top page was for purses
  • Youtube is one of the most popular social media websites
  • Most of the target audience is American (from USA)

Pulling and organizing the BIG DATA received can help any company realize who they are selling to and what they need to sell.
