It’s Not a Joke Anymore: Clowns in Athens
Summary: After several spottings across the southeast, clowns terrorizing children have been spotted in Athens, Georgia, right outside the college campus. They were following a group of small children under ten years old in a white van near the woods. There were no injuries.
Why: I chose this because I cannot believe this is happening. When I saw it happened in North Carolina, it was a joke to many of my friends. Now that it’s here, in Athens, there is much more of a demand for action and people are legitimately terrified. Furthermore, it was first presented to me by my friend in Texas asking about the clowns and I didn’t know about it.
Response: I found this shared by the Statham Police Department. As of today, Sept. 15 at 11:15 a.m., there are 103 reactions, 64 comments and 408 shares. Comments varied from joking fear to threats of violence towards the clowns. Many parents said they would shoot on site if they saw one of the clowns near their children. Others demeaned the clowns saying they need to “get a job.”
