As my third year at GW has come and gone, it is difficult not to have a little tingle of fear in my stomach. Classmates and I are continually expressing the same feelings,”Wow, I am a college senior! One year left, what comes next?” With an entire year ahead before we toss our graduation caps, it is near impossible to know where we will be come June 2015. One question that is continually asked time and again is, “Do you want to stay in DC after you graduate?” I really am open to wherever life my take me. To prepare for that potential adventure, I’ve relocated myself to New York for the summer.

Today is my first day of my new internship at FleishmanHillard, a global PR agency. I am so excited to be joining their digital team in their New York office. While I sit at “home” sipping my morning Naked Juice, I can only hypothesize of the new things I will learn and the cool experiences I will have. Landing this internship could be classified in the “dream come true” category as it is exciting to see my four year college professional development plan come to fruition.

On the flip side, this is also a bit of a terrifying experience. I think it is safe to say that it is has been at least seven (you heard me, 7) years since I have been in the city. Knowing the places to go and, more importantly, places not to go has been and will continue to be quite the learning experience. Thanks to friends who are New York natives, I’ve had some nice tutoring sessions on the subway. I’m also lucky enough to be friends with my roommate, so we might get a bit lost this summer but at least we’ll do it together.

I’ve only been here two days but I already feel like I’ve seen so much and experienced some delicious New York food.

The amazing view from the window of my apartment.

Nick took me on a little adventure to Long Island for some family Memorial Day weekend festivities. There were American flag fans and some tasty homemade food.

The Chrysler Building is just a few steps outside my office building. I think I can handle that view.

Just the beginning of eating my way through the Lower East Side. This is Wolfnights, a delicious and somewhat obscure wrap shop. I ate at the restaurant and sat in a swing-chair. It was so quaint and the food was delicious!

I might be a bit timid right now but I can feel that in no time I will be fitting right in with the rest of the crowd. I’m hoping this summer turns out just as I hope it will because who knows, maybe this southern native will find herself living here for the long haul.
