Hey James — came across your article and thought I would share something that I discovered when trying to solve for the same issue with my 3440x1440 monitor. I used SwitchResX to create a 5120x2160 with HIDPI option. This allowed me to select the HIDPI option of 2560x1080, which is considerably more sharp on MacOS than the custom 2752x1152. The trade off, if it matters to you, is this puts scaling at ~134% vs the 125% (also, and I could be wrong here, I believe this requires more GPU power to render the additional “pixels”). I really wish Apple would learn a thing or two from Windows and allow UI scaling at a given resolution.
