Do Not Think Progressive. Think Coffee
You sincerely would like to be sympathetic to Progressives and to their causes. After all, they are a bunch of sweethearted, loving people, and rotten to the core with good intentions. To the extent that having good intentions is a good thing, nobody should have a reason to quarry with them. For, too, even when inaccurate and partial and misleading, they can also be funny haha. But your perception of them changes when you realize that “Progressives” do not really think at all, or maybe worse, that they think in a regressive way.
For starters, their egalitarian ideas and beliefs, as well as the causes they serve and which “Progressives” swear by, are old ones and have been so for at least three hundred years. “Egalitarianism” being the ideological fuel and also the offshoot of eighteenth century Europe and the Enlightenment means that every time Progressives think they are moving “forward” they are paradoxically actually moving deeper into the past, and upholding it.
But if that isn’t bad enough for you, in that it entails a failure in thinking beyond a literally given point, then you might want to expend some time considering the flawed philosophy on which political “progressivism” stands. For, on the one hand, to be a Progressive you must implicitly or explicitly believe that history at all time moves on a certain, forward direction and therefore has ends and goals that will inevitably be reached if only you embrace and fight for the “right” causes. And on the other hand, to be a Progressive you must also implicitly or explicitly believe that humanity itself “progresses,” which furthermore suggests that they believe that at any point in time in the past humanity was “behind time,” and it therefore was a “regressive” humanity. Yet, “Progressives,” who take themselves for über-intelligent hot cookies, are utterly ignorant of the fact that humanity as such has never, and cannot, “progress.” Humanity has always been and will continue to be as it is. One of the reasons for that is this: every “progress” in any area or dimension of life necessarily implies a regress or stagnation in another.
While one of those two beliefs above reveals a failure to see that history is not the chronological recording of historical events which they confuse it with, the other simply confuses changes with progress. Yet, even here do Progressives show their true color, since they take that progress has obtained only when, and if, changes in society advance or promote egalitarian causes. In the Progressives logic or lack thereof, if they do not jive with those causes, changes happen outside history or against history. From that we see that the Progressive mind rests on tenets that are illogically absurd.
But the essence and face of Progressives and progressivism is made more patent when the Progressive egalitarian tenets get extrapolated to the field of their social and political demands. As it turns out, their causes and their social demands are not motivated by a serious belief in equality but on an inner psychological drive for revenge and a flair for disguised injustice towards those who have succeeded in life according to the ways of the world.
Did you just asked for examples? Well, then take the cause of the “women’s struggle” as an illustration of this point. While Progressives pretend they stand for equality between the sexes, they cannot conceive of and reject even the possibility that men could raise political and economical demands on society on the basis of male sexuality, as women do on female sexuality. Although Progressives will never admit to it, all of the rights that women demand for themselves they do for compensate for the situation in which the nature of their sexuality, which is the essence of their being, has placed them in society throughout history. If Progressives suppress this truth it is because clearly, what they actually want is to gain advantages for one of the sexes over the other, but never really equality for both.
The foundation for true equality being Justice, nothing in the political stance and practice of Progressives indicates they even acknowledge this.
If you want another example, Progressives purport to be against economic inequality and supposedly want to end poverty, yet they would never consider that poverty cannot be abolished as long as the poor continue to reproduce themselves faster than any program to give then succor can succeed at that. Progressives would accept neither the elimination of the poor, which would be inhuman, nor the reduction in their numbers through massive birth control, in sync with economic growth. But that is the only effective solution to poverty and to economic inequality!
And the same is true of climate change and global warming. The continual overpopulation of the world and the concentration of the world population precisely there where resources and technology are less available are decisive in those two phenomena. Yet Progressives will never even contemplate an approach as the one suggested herein towards solving these problems in an effective way, even though the poor are the most affected by them. For, Progressives need the poor around to justify themselves through their causes! That is what their “love” for the poor and the proletariat amounts to.
In general, Progressives demand that the recourses, privileges and prerogatives, and the social goods be made accessible and allocated equally to all classes, sexes, and demographic segments independently of their specific contribution to the acquisition. But that is because, as already noted, progressive ideas about equality are at odd with even an elementary notion of Justice; they actually are heir opposites.
Taken issue by issue and claim by claim whether about the sexes, the races, immigrants and natural phenomena, anyone with even a speck of nobility and justice in themselves―that is, anybody not driven by resentment and vengeful drives, can see that at the bottom of Progressive egalitarianism there is a predominant tendency to stick it to one side, to the advantage and advancement of the interests of another.
And, lovers and defenders of the sciences as they are, Progressives conveniently ignore that there is nothing scientific about “equality,” that equality is not more than a belief among others, and that nobody has the right to lord their beliefs over the rest of us.
But nobody ever said Progressives were smarter than the “Regressives” (Reactionaries) which they think themselves so different from.
Do not think Progressive; think coffee or something else. For Progressives think they really are thinking when they are actually only believing in their own absurdities.
