Basically, the idea is that the missing mass needs to be in a particular configuration to explain the observations we make, and no matter how many black holes and neutron starts we find, they couldn’t explain the observations. From what I gather, the missing mass needs to be in diffuse halos, not in super dense objects, for the equations to work.
