The selective scrutiny I’m reading requires a rebuttal. I want to bring up a recurring theme: The demonizing of the black male. Before we even get into a detailed discussion about Nat Turner, Nate Parker, or this particular movie, let’s assess critical thinking in 2016. Never mind that the Nat Turner movie delves into the rarely visited topic of assimilated religion of African Americans, let’s focus on controversy… Well you want to focus on controversy (regardless of actual innocence or guilt), well let’s do it. Rape is inexcusable. No one should ever support a rapist. Period. So while using this logic, why do some worship White Jesus, who was forced taught to our ancestors, during slavery, by raping slave masters? People of Jerusalem have never had “blond hair-blue eyed” features, but yet no scrutiny is visited there. The religion itself wasn’t optional to learn. You learn it, or you die. No scrutiny there. When a film is finally made about Nat Turner, discussing these topics, let’s focus on charges that the Director was found innocent of. So just so we are all on the same accord, one fully follows the ideology of the products we invest in? By that, I mean is this scrutiny applied to every product you purchase? Shoes. Clothes. Food. Well is it? Soul search on that one (I won’t even start a long list of supporting arguments to shut down that false logic.. but I can if necessary.http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3280872/iPhone-mineral-miners-Africa-use-bare-hands-coltan.html) My previous opening statement holds true. Are Roman Polanski and Woody Allen held to the same standards? And this isn’t a transfer of blame, it’s to prove a point.. Roman Polanski was actually found GUILTY as a PEDOPHILE, but people often watch his movies. Nate Parker was found INNOCENT. So it’s not a matter of guilt, or even supporting someone who was charged with a crime. It’s a clear tactic used to divide and conquer. Just like the house slave vs field negro, just like using a Black Preacher to make slaves more docile.. One can support other movies about slavery, but not this one? Is it because of Nate Parker, or is it because there is no White Savior who assists Nat Turner? Puppet masters, pulling strings.. Just to prove a point, we all should boycott America’s Next Top Model, Giorgio Armani, and Gianni Versace. They all directly or indirectly supported CONVICTED rapist Anand Jon.. Interesting. Haven’t heard this conversation, and he was found guilty… But yet, let me not watch a movie about NAT TURNER, who led a historical slave rebellion, because the Director was found innocent of rape charges.
In conclusion, watch a movie about NAT TURNER, not Nate Parker, there’s a difference..
Also, look up the defintion of Kansas City Shuffle.. Especially the next time Black feminists are left all by their lonesome at the next Beyonce Superbowl performance.
