That logic doesn’t flow well, particularly with environmental regulations. These regulations are dependent on findings from years’ worth of scientific research; these rules aren’t crafted out of the blue. What happened in November/December was that the incoming administration named someone openly hostile to well-vetted regulations to lead the transition for one of our main environmental regulatory agencies, indicating that there was suddenly little likelihood of regulations like this — which had been under study for years prior— being passed in the foreseeable future.

Also, it’s worth reading up on the history of environmental regulation in the U.S. to see exactly how quickly the “we’ve survived without it until now” argument falls apart.
