This article is a procrastination.
How to clean a sink. Eventually.
Noticing a dirty sink that I had planned to clean, I realized that it wasn’t getting done because I was procrastinating. The end.
Not so fast! — Says the procrastination. See, in order to clean the sink *properly* it would be wise to remove everything from the shelf *above* the sink and clean that, and *then* clean the sink. Obviously, cleaning the sink first would allow dirty water to dripple onto the clean sink. Clearly the shelf needs to be cleaned too. Except it doesn’t… Sure, it *could* be cleaned, and cleaning it first would be helpful if one also planned to clean the sink. Except the plan was simply to clean the sink. Not the shelf.
So, thinking that the shelf needs to be cleaned, when once again approaching the task of cleaning the sink, we are prepared for the idea of cleaning the shelf too! Let’s do this! … Except wait — where to put the stuff off the shelf while we’re cleaning the shelf? Aha — we need some more time to think about it. Clearly the toilet would work… but really? Queue the mental debate about whether the toilet would make a good place to put the stuff on the shelf.
As we can see a pattern is emerging. So now, here I am writing an article about the sink that I wanted to clean, rather than cleaning the sink… So still procrastinating… Or am I? See the shelf didn’t and, in the interest of a clean sink, doesn’t really need to be cleaned *Now* but this article might just have — To share an idea! Sounds like procrastination, don’t it? But since you’ve made it this far I might as well tell you: Looking for ways of doing a better job of cleaning the sink, are in this case simply ways of not cleaning the sink… yet. As someone, and probably lots of someones have probably said, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” … Right? The idea to clean the sink *now* is a perfectly good idea, and if your interest is really a clean sink, then the adding of extra work to be thorough is just preventing the sink from achieving the state of your dream/idea/thought — clean.
So, now having found a way of procrastinating that also served an auxilliary function of helping another dream come true — that of having an article in the state of… Well, eventually published, but at least written… I’mma go clean the sink! Or something.
