More reporting. Better reporting. Addressing issues that readers, viewers, etc. say are important to them. Writing in ways that clarify rather than muddy. All good ideas. Trying to coordinate or unify the media, however, is not only all but impossible it is counterproductive. Yes, the media need to hold power accountable, President Trump included, but they also need to contribute to the marketplace of ideas in a multitude of ways and voices. The media are, and must be, a diverse and rambunctious lot. Attempts to coordinate them will be unsuccessful and, most importantly, feed into the fear of a media conspiracy against fill-in-the-blank.
