Tony is the nickname given to William Anthony Parker Jr. He was born in Bruges, Belgium, on May 17, 1982. However, he was raised in France. He has two younger brothers, TJ and Pierre.

Tony was a football fan when he was younger. He had played football in his backyard since he was two years old. However, his passion for basketball eventually caught up with him.

Tony used to play basketball with his family and friends, which helped him enhance his skills. Parker played with the French junior national team at age 16. As he matured, he became one of the world’s best point guards. He became the youngest player in the Euro league at age 15.

He led ASVEL Lyon to two French League Championships. Parker was named the Euroleague’s Young Player of the Year in 2006 and 2007. In his final season at ASVEL, Parker led the team to a third league championship.

He was awarded the French League MVP award. In addition, all his teammates voted on who they believed to be the best player in France. Parker received 45 out of 45 votes.

2002–2003

In 2002–03, Parker averaged 12.6 points and 5.3 assists per game. This sparked the Spurs’ mid-season comeback, which enabled them to win their second title in five years. That season also marked Parker’s first All-Star appearance.

He was rewarded with his first NBA Finals MVP award after helping the Spurs defeat Miami in six games for their third title in four years. Parker has since become one of the most respected players in NBA history. He is one of the most significant point guards ever.

He ranked fourth among all-time assist leaders. He has been named an All-Star five times (fourth most overall) and twice as a member of the First/Second Team of the NBA. He tied Magic Johnson’s record for the most points scored by a point guard in an NBA Finals game by scoring a career-high 32 points in Game 3.

At 28, Parker helped lead France to its first FIBA World Championship gold medal. France won its first gold medal in 2002 by defeating Spain 86–79 at the Palais Omnisport de Paris Bercy Arena Complex. He scored 15 points per game during tournament play and came in second place to Dirk Nowitzki (17 ppg) for Most Valuable Player honors.

2010

In 2010, Parker played in the FIBA World Championship, where France finished in 9th place. He was named to the All-Tournament team and was named the MVP of the tournament.

He also led France in scoring with 23 points per game and assists with 4 per game. As a result of his excellent play on the court, he was awarded as one of France’s most valuable players for this event by their federation (FFBB).

2018–2019

Parker signed a two-year, $10 million contract with the Charlotte Hornets on July 11, 2018. He appeared in only one game for the franchise before being sent to the San Antonio Spurs in exchange for Marco Belinelli and Miles Plumlee. Parker made his retirement announcement from the NBA on June 10, 2019.

Tony began dating French journalist Axelle Francine the same year. The couple tied the knot in August of 2014. They were blessed with two sons, Josh and Liam.
