Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD, is a mental health condition that can happen after someone goes through a really scary or dangerous event. It’s like the mind keeps feeling the fear and stress from that event, even when it’s over. People with PTSD might have nightmares, feel jumpy all the time, or have trouble remembering things. They might also stay away from places or people that remind them of what happened.

PTSD can be caused by lots of different things. It could be from being in a war, seeing a bad accident, surviving a natural disaster, or even surviving abuse or sexual assault. Trauma can lead to many other struggles, such as substance abuse, as the individual spirals further downward.

The symptoms are how you can tell if someone might have PTSD. They might keep reliving the event in their head, have bad dreams, or feel like they’re always on guard. They might also feel really sad or alone, get angry quickly, or have a hard time feeling happy. These symptoms could be considered life threatening at times.
