Last, but not last!

Sweat and tears…

You’ve signed up for Andela Kenya? Do you really know what you’re signing up for? I’m just from my last day as a boot camper for cohort 17, follow as I give you a snapshot of what to expect straight from my first-hand experiences as a boot camper in the last two weeks.

First, Andela is a value-driven organization. These guys are just EPIC! Andelans are Excellent, Passionate, Integral and Collaborative. If you’re missing any of these so significantly, please don’t waste your time. Do you give your best? Do you have that inner drive to solve problems through software development? This is Andela for you, where you get encouraged to grow your tech talent.

The most important part of the whole process of joining Andela is the boot camp. Here, you will be expected to work on micro-tasks on the first week and then a project on the second. It’s not as easy as you may think, it’s actually demanding if you’re a beginner to coding things. I was somehow a beginner when I joined this boot camp, like I had just done html, css, bootstrap and materialize. At the end of the two weeks, I’m now up and running with Version Control, Test Driven Development, Continuous Integration and a milestone in programming in python.

Yes, I had to go through all that in two weeks, not withstanding the fact that I was still new to python and programming in general. It was an awesome learning experience but I just didn’t get to make it this time. Tears almost rolled up my eyes but I remembered, ‘Never cry when the sun goes down, because the tears will not let you see the stars.’ Sometimes the end of a story is more important than the story itself. Strive to create good endings. I will be back to Andela, not immediately, but definitely.
